Iran's free-market dollar in Tehran crossed 200,000 tomans (2,000,000 rials) tonight, Sunday, Shahrivar 1, 1405 (August 23, 2026), for the first time in at least a month, trading as high as 201,300 tomans; three independent sources (Sahmino, TGJU and Alanchand) confirm the level. That is up about 4 percent from last night's Sahmino-registered rate of 192,700 tomans.

Transcript

Tonight, Tehran's free-market dollar crossed two hundred thousand tomans for the first time in at least a month. The rate was one hundred ninety two thousand tomans last night, and two hundred thousand five hundred tonight. Three independent sources, Sahmino, Iran's TGJU price tracker, and Alanchand, all confirmed the same number tonight. The dollar, tether, and the official transfer rate are all on one board tonight. Tonight's dollar traded near its own one month high. From August seventeenth to tonight, the dollar rose about seven percent over six trading days. The main driver is a new United States sanctions package, expected to be unveiled tomorrow. If that package is harsher than expected, pressure on the dollar could continue. Tether against the rial moved hours before the official free market dollar caught up tonight. Cars, gold and coins, and the import market are three places to watch in the coming days. The gap between the free market dollar and the official transfer rate is now about twenty seven percent. Here is the one thing to remember: the informal market priced in tonight's jump hours before the official rate did. Read the full story on Sahmino dot com. Do you think tomorrow's rate holds, or pulls back?
