Labor minister announces installment gold purchase at fixed price for retirees via Zarrin Tamin platform
Sep 14, 2026
Ahmad Meidari, Iran's Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare, announced on Monday, September 14, 2026 (23 Shahrivar 1405), that retirees can now buy gold in installments at a fixed price. Under the plan, retirees register on the Bank Refah "Zarrin Tamin" platform with their national ID and declare how much gold they want to buy over the next three months; the cost is then deducted from their monthly pension over that period.
Meidari said the gold price is locked in from registration until the end of the three month period, so any price increase in that window becomes a gain for the retiree. The purchase ceiling is set according to the central bank's sales authorization. He added that the gold supplied under the plan does not come from bank reserves but from domestic mine output, with proceeds reinvested to expand the country's gold production.

Despite a 20 dollar rise in the global gold ounce, Emami coin and 18 karat gold prices fall in Tehran's market
According to rates published by the Gold and Jewellery Union and carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad on the morning of Tuesday, September 8, 2026 (17 Shahrivar 1405), the global gold ounce rose 20 dollars from the previous day to 4,434 dollars, a level consistent with tgju.org's live data of 4,435.15 dollars at 07:24 Tehran time. Despite that, a gram of 18 karat gold in Tehran's market fell to 23,011,000 tomans and a mesghal of 18 karat gold to 99,680,000 tomans. The Emami gold coin also fell, trading at 229 million tomans, and the half coin at 117 million tomans, while the quarter coin rose to 62,500,000 tomans and the gram coin fell to 33 million tomans. The divergence between the rising global ounce and the simultaneous decline in domestic gold and some coin denominations typically signals a shift in the dollar rate or a narrowing of the premium between gold and coin prices and their intrinsic value.
